“My parents separated shortly before I was two,” she recalled. “I grew up with my mother and brother in Winnipeg; my father stayed in Ottawa. I only saw him a few times a year, and my favourite memories were of skating with him, either in Winnipeg or on the canal when I visited Ottawa. Since learning of the jacket’s disappearance, Nancy has been scouring the city, remotely, via Facebook, Kijiji, Craigslist, Reddit, Nextdoor, Locanto, as well as other online classifieds. She’s gone through Instagram accounts of thrifters, second-hand vintage stores and reseller groups. Value Village agreed to put a notice up on its front door, in case whoever bought it is a repeat customer. A friend has posted flyers in the neighbourhood. But so far, the jacket hasn’t resurfaced.
