David Johnston to testify before MPs just days after some of them asked him to quit. The Trudeau government’s point-man on the foreign interference file goes before a parliamentary committee today.
OTTAWA—The Liberal government’s point-man on the foreign interference file goes before a parliamentary committee today nearly a week after all Opposition MPs called on him to resign.
His interim report, released in late May, concluded no public inquiry was possible, based on the need to keep a lot of the information that exists on the scope of Chinese engagement classified. Last week, they joined forces on an NDP motion that called upon him to resign and for the government to call an inquiry.
His interim report said based on what he saw, the media reports driving the national debate about interference didn’t have all the context required.
