A car travelling on North Street hit another at the Oxford Street crossing on Wednesday night. - ANDREW RANKINThe longtime west-end Halifax resident wants something done about a pair of dangerous intersections on Oxford Street that have resulted in more accidents than she can remember. The busy intersections are less than 50 metres apart where North Street and Chebucto Road meet.
In the past year, there have been at least two other crashes at the North Street intersection involving more than one vehicle, according to the city’s open data platform. Last February, another vehicle flipped at the location. “Most of these kids don’t pay attention and why would they? They’re kids. The two sets of lights are there right in a row and the cars are racing to beat them. They come down Oxford lickety split and many won’t stop even on a red.”
The study recommended banning right turns on a red light and installing electronic signs that show drivers how fast they are going as they approach the intersection.
