Grace Ryan, Darryl Hopkins and Deidre Gillard-Rowlings star in"Dad and the Fridge Box," a short film by Mary Walsh streaming on CBC Gem, based on a poem by Agnes WalshIt was the 1960s and Agnes Walsh’s father never liked anything new: not the phone, not the TV and definitely not the fridge. It was a gadget to fill up space, in his opinion.
“That was a time when the old people used everything,” Agnes, Placentia-born playwright and poet, wrote in her poem “Dad and the Fridge Box,” published in her collection “Going Around with Bachelors” in 2007.From the minute she first read the poem, actor/writer/comedian Mary Walsh saw a cinematic quality in it.
