It’s an issue that’s victimized thousands of Calgarians, and it’s becoming more frequent. Catalytic converter thefts have been steadily increasing since 2020 and were up 16 per cent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of 2022, according to the city.Article content Provincial legislation introduced in 2020 requires sellers of scrap metal to provide ID and mandated scrap metal dealers to report certain types of transactions, including catalytic converters. It also forbade cash transactions and established a database of sellers.Jeffrey Allan, owner of Calgary Scrapman Ltd.
