Here’s what you need to know ahead of the big game

The Oilers most recently won the Stanley Cup in 1990, the last in a stretch of seven dominant seasons. Edmonton won the Cup five times over that span, thanks in large part to one of the most dominant periods of Wayne Gretzky’s career.

The current squad has steadily pushed deeper into the playoffs in the past three seasons, being eliminated in the first rounds of 2020 and 2021 before reaching the conference finals last year, defeating the Kings in the first round in the process. With a win Saturday, the Oilers would be one step closer to winning another Cup.Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers celebrates a goal against the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Place in Edmonton, on April 25.

Draisaitl put together a stellar regular season, scoring the most points of his career and the most power-play goals in the NHL. While spending most of the season in the shadow of McDavid, Draisaitl finished fourth in the league in goals, third in assists and second in points. The Golden Knights and Oilers were familiar foes in the regular season, finishing first and second in the Pacific Division. They ended the year just two points apart in the standing, with Vegas getting the upper hand and earning top seeding against Winnipeg, the second wild card team.
