The Colchester County municipal office on Church Street, Truro. Brendyn CreamerTRURO, N.S. — Colchester council voted to pass amendments to its wind turbine bylaw at a special meeting on Feb. 14.
Before a vote took place that night, residents were asked to come and voice any opinions or concerns they may have with the proposed amendment. Each speaker had three minutes to give their opinions on the amendment, with council asking questions afterwards. "We believe the Wentworth Valley area is unique within Colchester, given its biodiversity, economic development, recreational activities, and the fact that it is home to species at risk, such as the mainland moose," said Dykeman during the meeting.
Moffat took particular issue with not using land boundaries for setback distances. The PAC decided to base setbacks off of dwellings due to what they argued were difficulties in finding property lines in rural Colchester. "Despite that, we haven't had consultation back to our community on the proposed land-use bylaw, which we assert will affect aboriginal and treaty rights."
