The City of Greater Sudbury is hosting two 2023 budget information sessions, with meeting scheduled for Feb. 1 and Feb. 6
In advance of February’s city council budget deliberations, the city is hosting two 2023 budget information sessions for the public.Links to these meetings will be available at overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca/budget-2023.A question-and-answer tool will also be available for people to ask questions about the budget until Feb. 15. Residents can also call the city’s customer service line at 311 for information.
This is the second round of public engagement for the city’s proposed 2023 budget. The first round of feedback was presented to city council on Jan. 17. Contributors completed 872 surveys, revealing their top priorities were winter maintenance and road maintenance/construction , followed by drinking water/wastewater/stormwater, emergency services, garbage and recycling, and recreation programs and facilities, with other services trailing behind.
Information collected throughout the public engagement process is shared with city council for their consideration during budget deliberations. The city’s 2023 tax increase currently sits at the 3.7 per cent city council asked city administrators to pare it down to, which required them to cut $17.8 million from the base budget.
This budget does not account for any of the proposed business cases that the mayor and council will debate in mid-February.
