ICYMI: “I haven’t had that opportunity to really reflect, but just knowing how this news is going to be received by our participants is such a positive step in the right direction,” said Angele DesRoches, PEERS Alliance program director.

Angele DesRoches, PEERS Alliance program director, says the organization will be hiring and training staff to operate the new overdose prevention site in Charlottetown. - Logan MacLean/SaltWire NetworkCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — When Angele DesRoches and her colleagues at PEERS Alliance were announced as operators of Charlottetown’s new overdose prevention site, it marked a new stage in a five year process.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, signing the agreement,” DesRoches said in a Feb. 9 SaltWire Network interview. “Ongoing community engagement is going to be a foundational part of our plan, and so we look forward to making sure there’s a very clear, transparent communication process for community members who want to share information.”

That means black market fentanyl being made, consumed, and that is what is driving the vast majority of overdose deaths.”

Clients start out in a waiting room before going to the supervised consumption area. Here, sections of the room will be separated with a chair, desk, mirror and lamp. After using, clients will go to the post-consumption area to make sure nothing goes wrong, Martin said.
