The Charlottetown Rural Raiders defeated the Kensington Torchmen 63-57 in overtime to win the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior A Boys Basketball League championship at Holland College in Charlottetown on Feb. 13. Charlottetown Rural team members are, front row, from left, Jacob Pimentel, Kevin Nguyen, Natan Rabayev, Griffin Robbins, Hugo Nguyen and Brady French.
“We played with some pretty intense defensive pressure and tried to force turnovers,” said Raiders head coach Neil Toombs. “Kensington did a good job handling that. “It feels great,” said Rabayev. We put in a lot of work, and it definitely paid off. We are happy about it.” Rabayev said the play started out with the Raiders having a fast-break opportunity, and the Torchmen did a good job of applying pressure without fouling.
