Work on Phase 1 of Charlotte Street redevelopment in downtown Sydney that began in summer 2022 stretched into the Christmas shopping season. Phase 2 will begin in the spring. The fall is cruise season which then moves right into Christmas, a timeframe of potentially brisk sales vital to retailers' bottom lines. “The most important thing at the end of the day September 2024 will be the big year when all of downtown will be newly landscaped …. downtown will look its best in decades,” MacVicar said.“People are still in the mode of the pandemic. Some people are still having that fear,” he said.
