But climate change makes it look as if it will more often be better described by its official name: the winter fishery.
Mike Foster of Wilmot had his two trout for the day in a plastic bag, but was still hanging out and chatting. He lost one fish that he had hooked through a hole in the ice, but that freed itself while he was trying to navigate the still frozen sections of the surface before the boat opened things up.
Both men said the fishing was good all week, but agreed that casting from shore or boats is likely to be the new normal from January to March as climate change continues to take its toll.Mike Foster shows off the two trout he caught Saturday at Silver Lake in Kings County.
