The Canadian Football League has a time\u002Dtested story of resilience and opportunity to tell, or rather sell, to its target audience, which this year includes…

“Is there a role for us to do more league-based recruiting, marketing, awareness strategies, making sure that those athletes and agents are aware of us?” said Ambrosie.

“Right now the teams are a presence because we’re scouting and looking at players,” said B.C. Lions co-GM Neil McEvoy. “I think all of us are selling our league every chance we get, and I think it’s a great league. We do have a ton of history. It has been sustainable. So any time you’re fighting to get a better product on the field — and our players are what it’s all about, our players make our league — you want the best guys available to come up here. Really, you just want to make sure they understand how great the league is, so it should be a collective effort. That’s players included.

The bottom line is the bottom line for many players trying to support a family on the proceeds from a short average career span. “Players should understand we had a receiver making $300,000 in our league last year,” said Calgary Stampeders GM/head coach Dave Dickenson, referring to Kenny Lawler of the Edmonton Elks.
