Canada is home to some of the most powerful culinary icons on earth, and I’ve had the privilege of not only having interviewed many of them, but becoming lifelong friends with them, as well. Many have taken time to share their personal passions and philosophies, detailing their journeys in a culinary landscape that continues to historically be viewed as big, bold and testosterone-driven, with professional kitchens rife with tension and testicles, politics and egos..
And all, in order to present a dish that speaks volumes of the creative spirit of the person who prepared it.In Canada, there are many women in the culinary arts who fill this niche – people like chefs Lynn Crawford, Suzanne Barr, Anna Olson and Mary Berg, to name just a few.
The world is full of powerful women, not just in the culinary arts, but in every single crevice of the globe. I do believe it’s true what they say – women are the nurturers, the healers, the problem-solvers, the multi-taskers.
It was 14 years ago that Julie & Julia the movie, starring Meryl Streep as the eponymous food maven and Amy Adams as Julie Powell, hits theatres everywhere to great success and much delight.
