Daniel Turner shocked and strikingly frightened with his powerful portrayal of protagonist John Proctor. His emotional yells transcended through the gymnasium, and his carefully choreographed fight scenes were done seamlessly and convincingly. He gracefully portrayed the moral growth of Proctor throughout the piece through his passionate interactions with his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, and the members of the court.
Daniel Turner, playing the role of John Proctor, completely commanded the stage with his authority. His use of stern facial expressions and fervent body language portrayed the indignant demeanour his character continuously embodied throughout the play. In his scenes with Mary Warren, his servant, played by Arwen Peters, he successfully portrayed his character choking, slapping, and whipping Mary Warren in a terrifyingly realistic manner.
Set in 1600s Massachusetts in the height of the Salem witch trials, Arthur Miller’s story of The Crucible follows teenager Abigail Williams as she confessed to having witnessed witchcraft. Wildly in love with married farmer John Proctor, she tries to accuse his wife Elizabeth, as well as countless other women. Scorned by their town, the Proctors fight for their innocence and their dignity.
Stark lighting moments by Katie Mertes and Alexa St. Pierre helped envision the scene, like the cool glow over the Salem Girls as they were possessed in the courtroom or the spotlight on Proctor, Tituba, and Rebecca Nurse as they stood to hang at the finale. Hair and Makeup by Marlee Hamilton utilized aging effects effectively, as well as making characters like Elizabeth and John Proctor dirtier as they spent time in jail.
