Cape Breton University and its faculty association reached a tentative deal on a new collective bargaining agreement, according to a news release from the university issued on Sunday afternoon. According to a news release the university issued on Sunday afternoon, the agreement “paves the way for the return to classes for CBU students and comes after one full week of discussions led by the provincial conciliation services division.”Faculty association members hit the picket line, striking mainly over what they call a lack of respect from CBU’s administration, and roadblocks in seeking pay raises in line with the current cost of living.
From here, the university release said, “the next step is for this to be agreed upon and ratified by CBUFA members, the Cape Breton University Board of Governors’ approval already having been secured. Details of the agreement will be announced once ratified, the university said in the release. “A ratification vote is expected to happen quickly. An announcement will be made before classes resume,” the release said.
