SYDNEY – Going into the first season of university sport, it’s normal for athletes to be anxious and excited to take the next step in their athletic ...
Romard, a first-year prop for the team, was diagnosed with a shoulder injury, which forced her to miss the first three games of the short six-game Atlantic University Sport season.
With plenty of competition on the Axewomen roster, Romard would dress for two of the club’s games and only play in one contest prior to the start of the playoffs earlier this month. Meanwhile, the Panthers were in second place with a 4-2 record, securing their spot in the final with a win over Sydney’s Madison MacInnis and the St. Francis Xavier X-Women last week in Charlottetown. It’s the Panthers’ first title appearance since 2006.
Along with participating in the AUS championship, Romard and the Axewomen will also play in the U Sports Women’s Rugby Championship next month in Victoria, B.C. Looking back over her career, Romard credits Riverview coach Chauntelle Brewer for helping with her development and eventually earning a spot on the Axewomen roster.
