WINNIPEG – It’s right back to work for the Vancouver Canucks who make a quick trip to Manitoba to face the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Bell Place tonight. The Canucks are coming off a 5-2 loss in Chicago last night and are playing on consecutive nights for the second time in less than a week.
It’s expected Thatcher Demko will get the start in goal. He was solid in a 5-2 win in San Jose last Saturday and is 4-1 on the season with a sparkling 1.78 GAA and 93.8% save percentage. With the Canucks playing back to back games and having just one win in their last four outings , it’s quite possible Sven Baertschi will get in to the line-up for the first time this season.
The Jets have been idle since a 2-1 shootout loss at home to New Jersey on Tuesday night. Andrew Copp had the Winnipeg goal while Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves. Forward Bryan Little suffered a perforated ear drum and required 25 stitches after being hit in the side of the head by a Nikolaj Ehlers shot midway through the third period. Little will be out indefinitely.
Despite the loss on Tuesday, the Jets are 3-1-1 in their last five games and 4-2-1 in their last seven. Mark Scheifele leads the club with 15 points while Nik Ehlers is the team’s leading goal scorer with seven on the season.
