Saturday is expected to be Bruce Boudreau\u0027s last hurrah as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.
The veteran head coach tried to approach Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers like any other, but there’s no denying he knows the elephant in the room, that Canucks management appears set to move on from him and replace him with Rick Tocchet.Start your day with a roundup of B.C.-focused news and opinion delivered straight to your inbox at 7 a.m., Monday to Friday.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
“I think he’s an amazing player. And I told him that this morning,” Boudreau said. “I do believe he’s a star in this league. I think he’s going to be a star for many more years.”“I need you to be special tonight and he’d say, ‘Yeah, I want to be special,’ ” he explained. “He loves to be challenged. He wants all the matchups he can get, where you think you need him the most. He’s been great about it. A true pro.
Under Boudreau this season Pettersson is having his best campaign. Going into Saturday, he had scored 19 goals and added 34 assists in 43 games. He’s on pace to score 101 points this season, which would shatter his career high of 68 points, set last season.
