BREAKING news: Canadian teen killed in Jerusalem twin blasts, says Canada's Ambassador to Israel
The first explosion occurred near a typically crowded bus stop on the edge of the city. The second went off about half an hour later in Ramot, a settlement in the city's north. Police said one person died from their wounds and at least three were seriously wounded in the blasts.
The violence occurred hours after Palestinian militants stormed a West Bank hospital and carried out an Israeli citizen seeking treatment there after a car accident, according to the young man's father. That incident could further ratchet up tensions. "We must exact a price from terror," he said at the scene of the first explosion. "We must return to be in control of Israel, to restore deterrence against terror."
While Palestinians have carried out stabbings, car rammings and shootings in recent years, bombing attacks have become very rare since the end of a Palestinian uprising nearly two decades ago. "The occupation is reaping the price of its crimes and aggression against our people," Hamas spokesman Abd al-Latif al-Qanua said.
"It was something horrendous. It was something that was inhumane," Husam Ferro, the teen's father, told Israeli news site YNet. "He was still alive and they took him in front of my eyes and I couldn't do anything."

Rather than seeking to develop a more constructive relationship, while defending our values, the Trudeau government seems to be going out of its way to engage in its own Cold War with China. But it’s also a new form of protectionism that will fragment, at great expense, existing supply chains and result in higher prices for many products. While we must avoid dependence on one country for products critical to national security, that should be a very small list. Freeland’s visit to Washington was quickly followed by that of Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne where he, reportedly, promised to reduce Canadian imports from China, a lose-lose scenario since China could reduce imports from Canada. Returning to Canada, Champagne then ordered Chinese investors to sell their shares in three Canadian junior mining companies, because, he claimed, they threatened Canadian national security even though two of them were pursing projects in Chile and Argentina, not Canada. The order may have had more to do with accommodating U.S. efforts to reduce China’s presence in Latin America. Asked to explain, Industry Canada said “the government has concluded that a lack of secure access to critical minerals found and developed both within and outside of Canada, by Canadian firms, is a source of national security risk for Canada.” This is a dramatic shift from January when the government approved the $960-million takeover of Neo Lithium Corp., a Canadian company developing a lithium mine in Argentina, by a Chinese state-owned enterprise.
