Canadian star Alphonso Davies scored a goal and set up another as Bayern Munich defeated Augsburg 5-2 Wednesday to reach the German Cup round of 16.
In the 74th minute, the 21-year-old from Edmonton passed the ball to himself in taking a corner and then nutmegged Augburg's Julian Baumgartlinger before feeding Jamal Musiala whose shot beat Augsburg 'keeper Tomas Koubek.
Davies, who suffered a cranial bruise after taking a boot to the head in an Oct. 8 game at Borussia Dortmund, returned to action Sunday in Bayern's 5-0 league win over SC Freiburg.Borussia Dortmund and Bundesliga leader Union Berlin also advanced Wednesday.The 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko forced an own goal from Bright Arrey-Mbi in the 11th minute and 19-year-old Jude Bellingham sealed the win with a penalty in 71st.
It was the first game in any competition that Bellingham hadn't started for Dortmund since December, as coach Edin Terzia attempted to give the England midfielder a break.Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi was sent off late for a tactical foul to deny a clear goal chance. Also, Stuttgart routed Arminia Bielefeld 6-0 at home and Fortuna Dusseldorf won 2-0 at Jahn Regensburg.
