Calgary Transit plans to hire 800 operators in 2023 in effort to ramp up service frequency yyc yyctransit

“We we know how important that customer experience is to the customer,” she said. “And we want to make sure that we have the courteous responsible drivers that make a transit bus operator great.” Transit says it needs 800 operators to bring its level of service back to pre-pandemic levels, and to reduce the strain on current employees as they cover for staff vacancies, vacation and sick time.
“The current operator compliment is working additional hours that they normally would not have to work,” said Fleming. “There are some advantages to that for them because they do get paid overtime. But eventually there is burnout. So we want to make sure that we get ahead of this and increase our team member complement as soon as possible.”
The city is planning to revamp its Route Ahead transit strategy with a new focus on frequency along its main routes. The goal is to have service every 10 minutes or better, 15 hours per day, seven days per week.
