“I think it was a lot of bad luck,” Schneider said. “I think that was pretty well documented with the balls in play off of him. But a guy like him who has been around as long as he has, he’s done everything that he needs to be able to do to be strong in the second half. Figuring out an explanation for the divergence in results has been an area of focus for those on the Jays staff assigned to ascertain such things. In the end, they determined it had little to do with Gausman’s form or health, but more with baseball being baseball.
As for the balk talk, it promises to be a busy few weeks of adjustments for Gausman, who was essentially called out by MLB in its demonstration of how the rule will be more stringently enforced.Article content Gausman threw his first bullpen session of spring training on Thursday but didn’t tinker with his foot tap or motion. Plenty of time for that in the Grapefruit League schedule that awaits.
