Henderson shot a tournament-low 6-under 66 and made four birdies in a row after her first hole in Orlando, pulling away from Nelly Korda.
It gave them one more reason to cheer as the golfer from Smiths Falls, Ont. stretched her lead to four shots midway through the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.
She has been on her game through 36 holes after switching club manufacturers in the off-season — to TaylorMade after more than a decade with Ping. She hit 16 of 18 greens on Friday and needed just 28 putts, after a 27-putt effort Thursday. Henderson, who won twice last season, spent most of December rehabbing an injured upper back, which caused her to withdraw from the second-to-last event of the 2022 season. She’s showing no signs of discomfort here.
The Tournament of Champions features a pro-am where celebrities are paired with pros. Former tennis star Mardy Fish led the celebrity leaderboard through 36 holes, while LPGA Tour legend Annika Sorenstam — who played with Henderson on Friday — was second.
