Yusuf is a Year 6 student at Wigton Moor Primary School and he and his parents had been looking at high school applications. His father, Irfan Shah, said his son did nothing special to prepare for the IQ test over and above what the child was already doing on his grammar school admission tests.Advertisement 3We apologize, but this video has failed to load.“I still tell him that ‘your dad is still smarter than you.’ … We take it all lightheartedly.
As his father recalls, “Even in nursery we just noticed that he was doing the alphabet and things quicker than other children but you just thought some kids may pick up the ABCs a bit quicker. “So, he just has this natural flair for maths and I guess that’s when we sort of realized. Even his school teachers, every time we get school reports they’re amazing, they say there’s nothing for us to teach.”
Yusuf enjoys sudoku puzzles and solving Rubik’s cubes, as does his younger brother Khalid, aged 8, who will also take the MENSA test when he’s a little older.
