Others want to see the expansion limited to not-for-profit clinics that are affiliated with hospitals.
There is broad agreement that the health system needs help, a situation that has reached crisis proportions during the pandemic with increased demand amid worsening staff shortages.The first step will be to add 14,000 additional cataract surgeries — 25 per cent of the current waitlist for cataract surgeries — in Ottawa, Windsor and Kitchener-Waterloo. No details were available about when and where that expansion would take place.
The plan was accompanied by endorsements, including from presidents of some hospitals, the Ontario Medical Association and the Ontario Hospital Association.
