“The unfortunate reality is that the government sometimes still takes our affordability for granted. We must make sure our provincial and local governments understand that preserving affordability must be a priority before it’s too late.” Energy efficiency is on the list of BILD Alberta advocacy initiatives, but new codes and enhanced building practices for the creation of net zero homes mean additional costs for the consumer.Article content
The affordability issues span several different ministries in the provincial government, Gupta says. There are new costs piled onto new homes through off-site levies, increased infrastructure requirements and other fees. He hopes to lobby the government into find some efficiencies between departments.
