Heritage BC seeks public submissions for its new digital Industrial Heritage Cultural Map
Heritage BC has put the call out for public submissions for an interactive digital map it is developing. The non-profit organization says the Industrial Heritage Cultural Map will trace the history of industrial activities and their impacts on “livelihoods, community growth, economy, and the environment of the province.”“We cannot underestimate the impact of industrial heritage on BC.
“People are interested in the places and communities where historic industry occurred, and they are also interested in the many legacies that resulted,” said Clausen. “It is Heritage BC’s goal to share this information with researchers, educators and lifelong learners among others on their individual journeys to become more informed global citizens.”
Submissions are open to individuals, organizations, and communities, and will be accepted until June 9. Roger Tinney, director of the Provincial Heritage Branch, says the project will help “tell a more complete story of British Columbia.” “This project offers a real opportunity to identify and better understand the impacts of the many resources and industries that are part of our province’s history,” Tinney said.
