The Ruskin Dam was finished in 1930 at the bottom of Stave Lake and was used by the producers of B.C.-filmed X-Files as a site of an alien abduction. Witnesses — according to B.C. Hydro — report seeing “eerie lights in the sky near Stave Lake Dam.” The newer of the two Buntzen powerhouses sits along the steep face of the eastern shore of Indian Arm.The first of two powerhouses was built in 1905 to provide electricity for Vancouver’s streetcar network. Up to that point, power for the region came from steam , so this was the first of its kind and the genesis of B.C. Hydro.
