OPP snow vehicle safety patrols, enforcement to continue throughout the season

Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police is reminding area recreational ice users that as spring approaches and warmer weather returns, so do melting snow and unsafe ice conditions.

“With spring upon us, the lakes are starting to break up as the ice melts. The shallower areas will usually melt first,” says a news release issued by OPP. “But underlying water currents or air pockets can also pose hidden dangers, even in the coldest temperatures. Snowmobilers can't see this until it's too late.”

“No ice is safe ice.” OPP snow vehicle safety patrols and enforcement will continue throughout the season in an effort to prevent related injuries and tragedies.
