He will be doing the scenography for the FouKi concert at Place Bell in Laval on April 8.“It was really nice,” Arriagada-Nunez said. “I felt the team was open. I felt like they wanted to tell an authentic Montreal story. So there was a lot of discussion. They really wanted to do it well. It was a passion project from the people from Nike.”“It’s maybe consolidating my place in Montreal as an artist,” Arriagada-Nunez said.
Last year, he painted on 10 Bixi bicycles, part of a program where Bixi hired a number of local artists to jazz up the bike-sharing service.This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.“For me it’s more intuitive,” he said. “It’s just in my blood. I just have to scribble and draw my little books. My style is colourful. There’s a lot of magical realism in it. It’s in movement, it’s dynamic. There’s a lot going on.
He grew up on Esplanade Ave. in Mile End and his parents, who had immigrated from Chile, instilled in him a love for all things cultural. He studied film production at Concordia University’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, but dropped out before getting his degree when he started getting busy with illustration work. He has also illustrated children’s books, beer labels, even providing art work for Loto-Québec.
“It’s always moving, this is what I like about my work,” Arriagada-Nunez said. “Every day is different.”
