It has undoubtedly been a windy week, and there’s more wind in the upcoming forecast.

A trough moving out of Quebec will spawn a new low off the coast of Nova Scotia this weekend. We often joke that the wind here in Atlantic Canada is nothing but a breeze.A trough of low-pressure originating near Hudson Bay will sink southward and meet energy along the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. to develop a strong low that will track between Nova Scotia and southeast Newfoundland.

Precipitation tapers to a chance of showers and wet flurries in the Maritimes Friday night into Saturday through Sunday in Newfoundland. Eastern Nova Scotia — including Cape Breton, along with eastern Prince Edward Island and most of Newfoundland — can expect 20 to 40-plus mm of rain. Meanwhile, the remainder of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick can expect five to 15 mm with locally higher amounts.

Peak wind gusts will range from 40 to 70 km/h across the region but could top 70 to 90-plus km/h for parts of eastern Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. This is forecast to bring another round of rain and gusty winds – potentially some snow on the northern edge of the low, and then some onshore snow along the trailing trough.Send your weather photos and questions to:
