“He admits to communicating online with individuals he knew were under the age of 18 years for the purpose of having them create and share sexually explicit images or videos with him,” said Johal. The information was passed on to authorities and in January 2021, a search warrant was executed at the man’s Edmonton home where three cellphones, a sim card, two iPads and one laptop were seized.
A black Asus laptop was found in the top shelf of the master bedroom closet wrapped in a garbage bag. Examination of the laptop revealed 117 unique child pornography photos and 16 unique videos. Another 32 files were categorized as under investigative interest. Johal said 1,355 child porn pictures and one video were found and were largely screenshots captured during live video chat sessions between Dec. 28, 2019, and Jan. 10, 2021. Several apps were installed in order to capture screen content.
“ sent explicit female pictures as a means of gaining their trust,” Johal said. “Several of the explicit female pictures were sent of 13-year-old stepdaughter.”Article content
