Cowell will be tasked with fast-tracking ambulance transfers at health-care facilities, using various transportation modes for non-emergency transfers, allowing dispatch to send calls to HealthLink and allowing paramedics to triage whether a patient needs to go to the ER or not to improve ambulance responses to 911 calls.
Copping said the province will increase the number of surgeries done at underutilized hospitals and chartered facilities. He said they also plan to create long-term reforms by allowing local level health-care professionals to make decisions and attracting more workers to Alberta. “I really do hope that I’ll be able to make a contribution to making the health-care system stronger and better,” said Cowell. “I’m hitting the ground running.”
