Many European countries have shorter wait times for elective surgery like cataracts and knee and hip replacements.
While those nations have public health care, as do we, the difference is they also enjoy a mix of private care with the public, increasing access to care. That is how they deliver better care than we do. Access delayed is access denied. Some provinces in Canada are trying to find ways to use private solutions such as one in which Ontario doctors would rent unused operating and recovery rooms on the weekend, hire nurses on their off time, and offer surgeries, with the bill paid by the province’s public system.
