Nominees, honourees and supporters of the 2022 AC Awards celebrated the achievements of Albertans with African roots in Edmonton on Saturday
Among them stood Temitope Oriola, professor of criminology and sociology at the University of Alberta, who won in the “Professional of the Year” category.
Among other topics, Oriola’s work focuses on policing and use of force, and he served as a special advisor to Alberta’s government for the province’s review of the Police Act. “Personally, I tried to ensure that I bridge the gap between the town and gown, and ensure that I don’t just sit in the ivory tower, but that I’m able to be part of a community,” Oriola said.
Bailey-Brown said she owns multiple locations in the Jiffy Lube franchise, and founded an agency that helps people buy franchises or turn their businesses into one.
