Sydney-Victoria MP Jaime Battiste:
" was kind, considerate, compassionate, and showed patience with her students." CONTRIBUTED - CONTRIBUTED
“On a few occasions, she almost had to be my doctor at the time,” the Sydney-Victoria MP said with a laugh. “But she certainly was a great professor. She was kind, considerate, compassionate, and showed patience with her students.” When Denny received an honorary doctorate from CBU last November, he remembered meeting with Dingwall afterward at a dinner and “she was just proud to see this young person she once saw as a student wind up doing so well. And I was so happy to see after all these years and get to point her out during the ceremony.
“Nancy has been a fixture on campus, especially at Capers games, for years, and her absence will not go unnoticed,” said Gordon MacInnis, CBU’s interim president and vice-chancellor, in the statement. “Anyone who has had the pleasure of engaging with Nancy knows the force of her impact. No matter how small the interaction, Nancy had a way of lighting up a person’s spirit and making everyone feel seen and heard.
“She was a true visionary when it came to athlete service support,” he added, also referring to her collaborations with Dr. Betty Holmes and Bucky Buchanan, who initially contacted Dingwall in 1980 — when CBU was known as simply the College of Cape Breton to join the sports injury clinic. Khattar added that Dingwall — who served as Hospice Society co-chair and worked alongside Hospice Society co-chair Patricia Jackson — wanted to make her own mark yet not be as much in the limelight as her university president husband.
