The 911 service in Nova Scotia was down for two and a half hours Tuesday morning. It was back up and running shortly after 9:30 a.m.- File911 service in the entire province of Nova Scotia was down for two and a half hours Tuesday morning.
RCMP Sgt. Andrew Joyce said the system went down at about 7 a.m. for an unknown reason. Until the service was back up and running, residents were given a series of numbers to call for different areas of the province. An emergency alert was issued across the province advising people of the numbers. The service was also out in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
There was no immediate word on what caused the outage. Nova Scotia EMO spokeswoman Heather Fairbairn said the office was still waiting to hear what happened. HRM residents should call 902 490 5020 for Police, Fire and Medical emergencies. Please be aware that if you call your local fire station our firefighters may be attending an emergency and not able to answer.
