Russia conducted a test for a long-range missile capable of carrying nuclear heads after months of ignoring the 'New Start' treaty, according to reports by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The missile, called Sarygaze, has a range of more than 11,000 kilometers and can carry a nuclear warhead that is more powerful than the combined nuclear arsenals of the US and NATO. The test marks the end of the agreement, which prevents Russia and the US from deploying more nuclear weapons. The missile is set to enter service by the end of this year.
أجرت روسيا أمس الثلاثاء، اختبارا لصاروخ جديد بعيد المدى قادر على حمل رؤوس نووية، وذلك بعد أشهر من انقضاء أجل معاهدة “نيو ستارت” الموقّعة بين القوّتَين النوويتَين والتي هدفت إلى الحدّ من الانتشار النووي.
ومع انتهاء مفاعيل المعاهدة في فبراير من دون تجديدها، أعفيت أكبر قوتَين نوويتَين في العالم رسميا من مجموعة من القيود. وقال الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين بعد تلقيه تقريرا عن نجاح إطلاق صاروخ “سارمات” البالستي العابر للقارات “إنه أقوى نظام صاروخي في العالم”. وأوضح أن الصاروخ يستطيع حمل رأس نووي تفوق قوته بأكثر من أربعة أضعاف أيّ سلاح تمتلكه الجيوش الغربية، مشيرا إلى أن “سارمات” سيدخل الخدمة القتالية بحلول نهاية العام الجاري.
وعلى رغم أن موسكو وواشنطن اتفقتا على استئناف الحوار العسكري الرفيع المستوى بينهما بعد انتهاء “نيو ستارت”، لم تظهر إلى الآن أي مؤشرات إلى تجديد المعاهدة أو تمديدها. وكان الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب دعا مرارا إلى اتفاق جديد يشمل الصين التي يتنامى مخزونها النووي، وإنْ كان لا يزال أقل بكثير مما هو موجود في ترسانتَي روسيا والولايات المتحدة.
في المقابل، لم يُبدِ ترامب حماسة تذكر لمطلب موسكو تمديد معاهدة “نيو ستارت” الموقعة في العام 2010، وهي آخر إطار لضبط الانتشار النووي. ويُعرف صاروخ “سارمات” لدى حلف شمال الأطلسي باسم “شيطان2” ، وهو أول صاروخ بالستي عابر للقارات يُصنّف ضمن فئة “فائق الثقل” تنتجه روسيا بعد انهيار الاتحاد السوفياتي.
