وقد صدق رئيس الوزراء حين قال إنه يجب علينا أن نبذل جهدا أكبر إنه لشرف عظيم أن نخدم الشعب البريطاني، وعلينا أن نكون جديرين بهذا الشرف". من جانبها قالت صحيفة التايمز، إن شبانه وعددا من كبار وزراء الحكومة البريطانية، أبلغوا ستارمر، بضرورة تحديد جدول زمني لرحيله عن رئاسة الوزراء. ولفتت إلى أن شبانة كانت واحدة من ثلاثة وزراء على الأقل في الحكومة، اقترحوا على رئيس الوزراء إعادة النظر في منصبه.
وسيبلغ الوزراء ستارمر الأربعاء، في اجتماع مجلس الوزراء بأن منصبه بات"غير قابل للاستمرار" نظرًا لتزايد الاستياء بين نواب حزب العمال. ويستعد ويس ستريتينغ للترشح لرئاسة الوزراء، بعد أن دعا أكثر من 70 نائبا من حزب العمال علنا رئيس الوزراء إلى الاستقالة
