The truck driver, 26-year-old Calgary man Gurkirat Singh, was charged the following day with the importation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Singh was set to appear in a Lethbridge court Thursday. “By stopping illegal drugs at the border, we’re reducing the risk of harm to Canadians and keeping our communities safe,” Brad Wozny, regional director general of the CBSA, said in a statement. “I want to thank CBSA and RCMP employees for their continued quick and decisive action, and for their ongoing efforts to protect our country from illegal drugs, firearms and other contraband.”
