JOHN'S, N.L. — The Newfoundland and Labrador government is expanding the province's COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccine program.Starting Monday, Feb. 6, the Pfizer Comirnaty BA 4/5 COVID-19 vaccine will be available for children aged five to 11.and Health CanadaThe new offering makes three different bivalent vaccines available for people over 18 .
Provincial health officials say the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is the best choice for booster doses for anyone over age five. For younger children aged six months to five years, the primary series vaccination is the recommended booster.Anyone who received a booster after Sept. 21, 2022, does not need another booster at this time, even if it has been 20 weeks or more since their fall booster.Additionally, appointments can also be made through participating pharmacists and physicians for those 12 years and older.
Health officials stressed that vaccinations remain an important tool to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 as well as reducing the risk of severe disease. Anyone booking an appointment may need to check periodically for availability, as appointments are continually being added as vaccine supply is received.
